Review Mavic Mini Gen.1

Reading Time: 2 minutes

I bought the DJI Mavic mini 2019 at the DJI Store Frankfurt. I am still very of the quality of the recordings, even if it is “only” 2.7k 30FPS.It’s really interesting to see how stably the drone stays in the air thanks to the GPS.

In Germany, the regulations have become a bit more complicated since 2021 and you can no longer fly your drone so easily, although it only weighs 249g.

Where am I flying?
I would like to launch the Mini on the Feldberg and fly over the Taunus snow landscape. Due to the current Corona situation, the Feldberg is unfortunately closed. For me, the drone is a super to go solution if you are a 2.7k is enough. You can film cool things that you couldn’t capture without a drone. I recently flew in Ehlhalten, you can read the whole Post here.

Signal Technology / Return to Home
If the signal should then break off, the drone flies all alone via GPS back to the place where it started. The drone communicates with the remote control via a normal WIFI Singal, which can come in larger cities with many WLAN networks to signal crashes.

Downside
You have to be aware that the Mavic Mini 1 only has a distance sensor at the bottom, which means it can’t detect objects in front of it and there’s no “anti-crash” feature like on the Mavic Air. This makes it virtually impossible to lose the drone unless you crash it.

Cras experience
My drone has already had one crash, it flew into our balcony. After a rotor blade replacement, it flew as before. I have the “Fly More Combo”, which includes a bag and several batteries. In my opinion, flying with only one battery is not fun and the extra cost was worth it to me.

All in all a great drone especially for that price if you don’t need 4K.

I also did some drone footage for my school for the “Virtual Open House”.
